Bulbul Thapa, a second-semester Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student, feels both excited and nervous about his upcoming assignment for his English Language course. His task is to write a research essay analyzing how different leadership styles impact organizational performance. Drawing from his father's background as a police officer, where he often uses a mix of authoritative and transformational leadership, Bulbul is determined to do well.

To start, Bulbul recognizes the importance of a strong thesis statement. He decides on the following thesis: "Transformational leadership, which focuses on inspiration and motivation, generally improves organizational performance compared to transactional leadership, which relies on rewards and punishments." With this thesis in mind, he begins drafting his first paragraph. Bulbul writes, "Transformational leadership is crucial for creating an environment of trust and innovation in organizations. By encouraging employees to put the organization's needs above their own, transformational leaders foster a culture of teamwork and dedication. For instance, a study by Bass and Avolio (1994) found that organizations led by transformational leaders had higher employee satisfaction and productivity."

This paragraph effectively introduces his first point, linking it to his thesis while providing supporting evidence. As he continues, Bulbul understands the importance of clear paragraph structure. He outlines his next paragraph to discuss transactional leadership. He writes, "On the other hand, transactional leadership emphasizes achieving goals through leaders and followers, focusing on ensuring compliance through rewards and punishments. While this style can boost short-term performance, it often lacks the ability to inspire long-term commitment and innovation. Research by Judge and Piccolo (2004) shows that organizations with transactional leaders may see limited employee morale and engagement." Here, Bulbul successfully contrasts the two leadership styles using research to back up his arguments.

Recognizing the need for smooth transitions, Bulbul incorporates phrases that guide readers through his essay. For example, he uses words like "however," "in contrast," and "additionally" to connect his ideas seamlessly. This attention to flow enhances the readability of his essay. After drafting his body paragraphs, Bulbul takes time to review his work. He knows that writing involves more than just creating a draft; it requires revising and editing. He revisits his thesis statement to ensure that each paragraph supports his central argument. Bulbul checks for clarity, coherence, and grammatical accuracy, making necessary adjustments to strengthen his essay.

Once satisfied with the content, Bulbul focuses on crafting his conclusion. He writes, "In conclusion, while both transformational and transactional leadership styles have their advantages, transformational leadership stands out as the more effective approach for improving organizational performance. By promoting trust, collaboration, and innovation, transformational leaders can guide their organizations toward long-term success." This conclusion effectively summarizes his main points and reinforces his thesis. Finally, after several revisions, Bulbul submits his essay with a sense of accomplishment. He has transformed his initial ideas into a well-structured piece that clearly articulates his thesis and supports it with compelling evidence.

Business etiquette is made up of significantly more important things than knowing which fork to use at lunch with a client. Unfortunately, in the perception of others, the devil is in the details. People may feel that if you can't be trusted not to embarrass yourself in business and social situations, you may lack the self-control necessary to be good at what you do. Etiquette is about presenting yourself with the kind of polish that shows you can be taken seriously. Etiquette is also about being comfortable around others (and making them comfortable around you).

People are a key factor in your own and your business' success. Many potentially worthwhile and profitable alliances have been lost because of an unintentional breach of manners. Etiquette is a very important factor in determining the success or failure of a business or a person. Etiquette is the way a person presents himself to others, being comfortable in making other persons around comfortable. Good business etiquettes are the recipe of success. It is very important to practice good manners and etiquettes in order to succeed in your business, be it online or offline for people and maintain good relationships with clients, customer and employees.

When you do not practice good etiquette intentionally or unintentionally, you are bound to face lot of obstacles on the path to success. But if a person is generally considerate and attentive to the needs of those who work for him/her by following the basic rules of etiquette, things will definitely be successful in any venture.

It is easier to make money than to earn respect and praise from people who know and interact with you like colleagues and employees. Life will definitely be easier if you follow the idea of business etiquette.

Questions:
a. What are diverse meanings of "business etiquette"?
b. How is the success or failure communication at business setting determined by etiquette?
c. What could be the negative consequences if not following etiquette for an employee?
d. What does the situation given above imply about our behavior while interacting online?
